During 2003 Coláiste na Gaeilge organised weekends devoted to learning the Irish language. Those events were held at Cromford, Basingstoke, Den Bosch (Holland), and St. Albans. All were fully attended and highly successful.

This year, 2004, weekends for learning, and practising, Irish language are arranged for the following places:

CROMFORD. From 27 to 29 February. This beautiful Derbyshire village is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and also, the home of Richard Arkwright (1732-1792) industrialist and advocate of adult education.

ANNAN, Dunfries. 1st.to 3rd May. A seaside resort 4 hours from London by train. Many speakers of Scottish Gaelic have booked. There will be the usual classes for all standards of ability. Scenic outings are available. Wide opportunity to practise language use.

LEIGH-on-SEA. Irish classes and discussions are arranged on the yacht M.V "Bembridge" in this ancient and scenic Essex harbour.The Le Chéile Group of Chelmsford is involved in this gathering.

COVENTRY. A one-day event. There will be classes and opportunities for Irish conversation. All will focus on the current 'Teach na h-Eireann' project of the local Anglo-Irish community. This will be on June, 26th.

WINCHESTER. A weekend starting on 25th. September which is inspired by Southampton Irish language group. There will be classes and discussions in Irish. Winchester has the longest cathedral in England. It was here that Phillip II of Spain married Queen Mary of England. The graves of Jane Austin and of Izaak Walton, the writer and angler, can be visited.

GUERNSEY. From 24th to 26th October an International weekend for speakers and learners of Irish will be here in this CHANNEL ISLANDS resort. Many enthusists from Europe are expected to participate. Especially from France. Early booking advised.

OXFORD. A small group of fluent Irish speakers meets once a week from September to April. Everyone welcome. The group prefers friendly conversation in the Irish Language. Please telephone: Mrs Loretto Plunkett - Murphy. 01865 742924.
