The August ( 2003 ) examination results continue to show that many thousands of young people in the Republic continue to study the Irish language diligently.

In 'Leaving Cert' examinations, a student requires 85%, or more, to receive a grade A. In 2003, 11 % of students received this high level in Irish. In comparison, only 9.9 % of students achieved grade A in English.

Forty- three percent of students gained either grade A or B in Irish in 2003. By comparison, only 36.20 % of students gained grades A or B in English.

Many thousands of young people in the Republic have a high degree of competency in Irish. Let us hope that they can use Irish in their daily lives!
